ABOUT US

Born out of need.

Our business was founded on the belief that learning to fish shouldn’t depend on having the right connections or background. Not everyone grows up with friends or family who can teach them, and we’re here to bridge that gap. Whether you’re coming to the sport later in life, recently purchased a boat, or are simply looking to explore a new outdoor passion, we provide the instruction and support needed to build confidence and long-term success on the water.

We’ve assembled a team of knowledgeable, patient instructors who are passionate about our natural resources and committed to helping others enjoy them in a way that is fun, safe, and responsible.

Meet the Team

  • Founder/Instructor

Drawing on his experience as a former teacher, Mike breaks down complex fishing topics into easy-to-understand pieces, making time on the water both educational and fun. Years as a tournament angler and guide have given him extensive on-water experience. Mike is a lifetime learner, and he stays current on the latest technologies and trends to give anglers the best tools for success.

  • Instructor

Born and raised in Otter Tail County, Nick has spent his entire life honing his skills on the water. He actively competes in local tournaments to keep his abilities sharp and brings a wide variety of tactics designed to help every angler succeed.

FAQs

  • We fish lakes throughout Otter Tail County, exploring a variety of waters to give anglers diverse and rewarding experiences. In general we will be within 30 minutes of Ottertail city. In addition, we’re happy to travel to customers’ locations to help break down lakes where they have homes or cabins, providing personalized guidance and strategies to maximize their success on the water.

  • Unlike traditional guide services that focus mainly on putting clients on fish for the day, our company is built around true angler education. We teach the why behind every decision—how to read the water, choose presentations, interpret electronics, and adapt to changing conditions—so anglers leave with the skills and confidence to succeed on their own. Our goal isn’t just a great day on the water; it’s empowering you to fish smarter, explore independently, and grow as an angler long after the trip ends.

  • We are willing to tailor our services to meet the unique needs of each customer. Whether you’re looking to focus on specific techniques, explore certain lakes, or develop your skills at your own pace, we’re happy to create a personalized program designed just for you.

  • Please ensure you have a valid MN fishing license prior to your trip.

All fishing and safety equipment will be provided. If you’d like to bring a specific rod or tackle to try out, you’re welcome to do so. We supply water and light refreshments, but if you prefer additional food or beverages, feel free to pack what you need. Coolers will be available for your use.

  • We allow each angler to keep up to a half-limit of fish, a choice made intentionally to support long-term conservation. By harvesting less, we help protect fish populations, maintain healthy lakes, and ensure quality fishing opportunities for everyone—now and in the future. This approach lets customers enjoy taking home fresh fish while still practicing responsible stewardship of the resource.

  • Due to the hands-on, personalized nature of our educational classes, we are best able to serve groups of one or two people. This ensures each participant receives focused instruction and guidance. For larger group outings, there are a variety of guide services in the area that can accommodate bigger groups.

  • We understand that every angler’s situation is unique, and we’re happy to offer discounts for special circumstances. If you’d like to discuss options, please reach out to us—we’re always open to working with you.

meet the founder

Born and raised in the heart of Minnesota, Mike Stein grew up with a passion for the outdoors that never faded. A lifelong outdoorsman, Mike has spent countless hours on the water—first as a kid learning from his dad at the cabin, and later as a dedicated tournament angler for six years. His competitive experience sharpened his techniques, instincts, and understanding of what truly makes an angler successful.

For the past seven years, Mike has also guided anglers of all backgrounds, helping them break through skill barriers, read the water with confidence, and experience the thrill of success on their own terms. Additionally, he brings a background as a public school educator—meaning he knows how to teach, communicate clearly, and meet people exactly where they are.

These combined skills make Mike more than just a fisherman; they make him a highly effective instructor. His mission is simple: empower anglers with the knowledge, confidence, and conservation-minded practices they need to grow, succeed, and enjoy the outdoors for a lifetime.
